"Space for Women" expert meeting

ITU was honored to participate and present the EQUALS Global Partnership at the United Nations Expert Meeting on Space for Women, which took place 4-6 October 2017 in Washington, D.C.

The two-and-a-half-day event brought together decision makers and experts from international organizations, governments and non-governmental organizations as well other high-ranking officials and representatives of the private sector and research institutions.

The meeting was jointly organized by the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) and UN Women. The event was designed to facilitate sharing ideas and expertise regarding space and women, enhancing existing partnerships and forging new ones, strengthening and delivering targeted capacity-building and technical advisory activities, and promoting efforts to encourage women and girls' involvement in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education.

The event explored such thematic issues as "making space work for women's empowerment" and "Let's make space in the aerospace industry and STEM fields work for women's empowerment". UNOOSA also sought recommendations from the organizations present on the scope and goals of the new Space for Women project. ITU shared its experience with gender and technology, and EQUALS.
